Did you miss walking down the road to find your local restaurant/bar/pub open?
There was a time, whereupon coming home weary of the world around you, you could venture out for a dinner, a drink – even for the coffee. I believe many of us are missing that.
Last Friday, I had a cappuccino on our outdoor space at Sanzio’s terrace. It was a nice sunny afternoon and heaters were not needed as it was very hot, sitting under the glass pergola roof. That balmy feeling of the warmth in your bones, the sun in the sky and the taste of fresh coffee on your lips. It was the Mediterranean. We are talking about Sanzio in Willesden Green!! And It is mid-April!
It was such a privilege, sitting outside and enjoying a few minutes of break. I only had a short time as we were expecting new customers to arrive in 15 min. But that was enough. It was enough to breathe, basking in the glow of the sun and the future of customers.

I overheard a couple talking while enjoying their lunch. They were very happy with their seabass fillets and they were commenting how the meal feels like the south of Italy. Their chitter and chatter was a balm to my soul.
Well, our terrace is full of olive trees and the floor is made of rough white stones, so yes, it is reminiscent of South Italy. With sunshine and the bottle of Orvieto that this couple were enjoying, I could just see how our terraces are changing forever. It used to be a place for smokers… not any longer!
Now our outdoor dinning area, it is a place for everyone to enjoy good food, good wine and good conversation.
So COVID did not bring just bad things but some good ones too. Many other hospitality businesses improved their outdoor spaces as we did. We have transformed our outdoor area into an outdoor haven, we have built up terraces, installed heaters, pergolas, got nice garden furniture and last but not least blankets (just in case!).
But that is not all – pavements – we are allowed to have tables on the pavements – a clear marker we have loosened our stiff English upper lip and enjoying the freedom of the continent. With this change I think we have somehow moved to the southern hemisphere….

Isn’t it such a luxury to go out knowing you can just stop somewhere for coffee or for lunch, knowing restaurants, cafes and pubs are open?
